For You Writers

Write. Enjoy what you are writing. Make it as good as you possibly can…but…within reason. Don’t re-write the thing to death. It may just lose its soul, the colonel of originality that made it uniquely yours, that thing you loved to write.

Then.

Send it out into the world.

Publish it. Or, send it to an agent. Give it to a friend. I don’t care, but don’t keep it to yourself. Send it away.

Because the written thing doesn’t really become alive until it’s read. Until the reader takes what you’ve written and begins to create the worlds that your characters inhabit. Not until that happens does your written thing ¬†become what it’s capable of.

So be done with it, send it off, learn from it.

And write something new. Something you love.
